Deputy Prime Minister told Macron, "Take your rifle and go to Ukraine"; Italy's Ambassador to Paris was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

France summoned Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Matteo Salvini 's ambassador to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs this week due to his comments about President Emmanuel Macron .
According to reports in the national press, an unnamed diplomatic official stated that Italy's Ambassador to Paris, Emanuela D'Alessandro, was summoned to the French Foreign Ministry on August 21 following Salvini's "unacceptable remarks."
The official said, "The ambassador was reminded that these remarks contradict the climate of trust between the two countries, historical relations, and recent bilateral developments. However, these developments, especially in the context of unconditional support for Ukraine, demonstrated strong rapprochement between the two capitals."
Salvini mocked the idea of sending Western troops to Ukraine, suggesting Macron "take his helmet and rifle and go to this country himself." (AA)
